The bizarre identicality of After Rock (4) aims to spark a closer inspection of what might initially seem a mundane collection of rocks. Questions are raised about how they came to be – are they truly found natural objects or are some of them ‘fake’? And in what way might we decide the rocks are ‘fake’? Perhaps they have not been formed through the processes we would expect? Maybe they’re made of the wrong material? Or maybe the hundreds of human hours spent creating replicas just cannot compare to the deep geological time taken to create the original?
